At Spencer Field, the visiting Buffaloes rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the opener. Lane Draper pitched five innings for Melrose, striking out eight, with Haden Huber going the final two inings.

Draper and Huber each had a single for Melrose’s only hits.

In the five-inning nightcap, the Buffs took a 7-3 lead with a five-run fourth, but the Wildcats rallied for eight in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a solo homer by Robbie Coleman. Wyatt Payne’s single and Ramon Arenivar’s double highlighted the Melrose fourth.

Lane Riley, Gus Payne and Clint Barnard singled in Melrose’s two-run first, but Clovis “C” took the lead with two in the second and one in the third.

Melrose (4-2) visits Texico on Saturday in a 9 a.m. start.
