Clovis High and Roswell are giving the Striking Out Cancer fund-raiser on Thursday, after winds as high as 65 mph forced a Saturday postponement of the softball doubleheader.
The games are scheduled for 5 p.m. at Lady Wildcat Softball Complex.
“We wanted to both get in the games before district play,” Clovis High coach Brandi Thomas said.
The Portales-Clovis game scheduled for Thursday has been moved to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at the complex.
Game tickets are $7 per person, with a free hamburger and bag of chips provided by event sponsors. T-shirts will also be on sale for $10. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society, and Thomas said the funds wouuld be presented during the upcoming Relay for Life at Ned Houk Park.
This is the second year for the event. The inaugural Striking Out Cancer effort in 2008 raised about $2,000, Thomas said.
“Our hope this year is to get at least $3,000,” Thomas said. “But seeing as how we’ve rescheduled, we need as much publicity as possible.”
