LAS VEGAS, N.M. — Brittney Gardner went 7-for-8 at the plate and the Portales Lady Rams softball team posted an 18-7, 5-2 doubleheader sweep over West Las Vegas on Saturday.
Amanda Marquez went the distance in the circle for Portales in the opener, giving up 10 hits. Meantime, the Lady Rams (7-6) broke the game open with a nine-run seventh for an 18-5 lead.
Gardner was 4-for-4 and LeAnne Blaeser and Gabby Garcia each added three hits for the Lady Rams. Cristina Pachecho was 3-for-5 for the Lady Dons.
In the second game, Portales erased a 2-1 deficit with a four-run fourth and Blaeser took it home from there, pitching a complete-game five-hitter. She shut out the Lady Dons after the first inning.
Gardner, Jaci Terry and Sorina Flores led the Lady Rams’ attack, all going 3-for-4. Pachecho was one of four Lady Dons with two hits.
The Lady Rams travel to Clovis for a single game on Thursday.
