Notes: Fort Sumner took control of the game with a 9-2 run to start the second quarter. Luce scored twice inside, Chavez hit a 3-pointer and Bree Lucero capped the spurt with a layup off a steal to put the Vixens up 30-20. … Grady hung around until Stinnett scored on a fast-break drive and added a 16-footer to start the fourth quarter, put Fort Sumner up 39-26. Grady did not get closer than 11 the rest of the way. “I though we started out well and then we played pretty tight and played not to lose,” Vixens coach Matt Moyer said. “In the second half, we were more comfortable and things fell into place for us.” … Fort Sumner hit 11-of-12 free throws in the final period when Grady was force to foul. Luce was 4-of-4 and Stinnett 3-of-4. ... The Vixens are making their third state appearance in five years. They won the 1A state title in 2005. … The Vixens, who have won eight of nine games, beat Grady 46-33 during the regular season.

Notes: The game was played at Melrose due to lack of seating capacity at CCS. The teams split during the regular season, each winning on its home court. … Best made 3-of-4 free throws in the final minute to seal the win for the Lady Tigers after Schaap’s two free throws with 1:02 left made it 53-51. “We knew it was going to be a tough game,” CCS coach Max Kralicek said. “What really hurt us was the second quarter, but I couldn’t ask us to play any harder than we did in the second half. I was real proud of the kids.” … … Best scored 13 of Elida’s 19 points in the final quarter; Schaap had 15 of Clovis Christian’s 22 in the period. … The Lady Eagles set a school record for wins this season by either a boys or girls team, Kralicek said. The previous mark was 17 for the boys, set in 2002-03 when Kralicek coached that squad.
