Elida senior Ethan Jasso hopes to attend Texas Tech and major in athletic training.

Ethan Jasso is a triple threat.

The Elida senior is one of the team’s top basketball players, excels in the classroom, and is an active member in the community.

Elida coach Darrell Chenault said Jasso takes his grades seriously. He’s on the honor roll and is being considered for the prestigious Daniel’s Scholarship.

“That is a huge honor, it is a very tough scholarship to get,” Chenault said. “It involves grades, activities within the community, which he does a lot of. He’s part of a youth group (which) does different things in the community.”

His community work includes participating in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and mentoring grade-school children.

“Well, the boy is a Christian and he lives by his faith every day,” Chenault said. “He works hard. . . he has never had an intentional foul in a game and he is going to play by the rules and play fair, that makes him an awesome player. He is one of the hardest working players on the team.”

Jasso has been playing basketball since he was in the fourth grade. He practices to be more of an aggressive player in the post position and getting rebounds. His focus is being a better player for his team and helping the team to achieve their goals.

“I hope we can come together as a team,” Jasso said. “If we work hard to win our next three games and make it into the district tournament, hopefully we can play our best and come out champions. I feel, even at the end of the season, if we don’t make it, we still gave it our all.”

Off the court, Jasso likes to hangout with his friends, go to the movies or to the gym on Sundays with his family.
