Versatility is what sets Floyd sophomore Tori Tucker apart.

Tucker, a 5-foot-9 sophomore, is the leading scorer for the Broncos, who were 14-7 heading into Thursday’s district game against Elida.

“She makes it easy to coach because she can play point guard, wing, shooting guard or the post as well or better than anyone else we have,” Floyd coach Adam Terry said. “She is versatile and can take care of their big players.”

Terry said Tucker is blessed with good size, decent speed and jumps ability. She also spends a lot of time working on her game.

“She is a gifted athlete to start, she puts a lot of hours in working on stuff,” Terry said. “She grew up playing basketball. It didn’t come naturally to her, she had to work hard to get where she is now.”

Current Floyd teammate Elena Mendoza has been playing basketball with Tucker since the second grade. They practice and hangout together.

“We go to the movies, watch games and practice,” Mendoza said. “I can beat her just, not down low, but around the 3-point line I can.”

Tucker said Mendoza is a good sparring partner and fun to practice against.

“Basketball has been my favorite sport since I was little,” Tucker said. “A friend of mine, Cisti Greenwalt of Clovis, went semi-pro and I’ve always wanted be like her, she has really inspired me.”

She hopes one day to play professional basketball like Greenwalt.
