Clovis (13-7) at Los Lunas (8-10)

7 p.m.

Radio: KCLV-AM 1240, KICA-FM 98.3.

Los Lunas players to watch: Sr. F Colten Chavez, Sr. G Aaron Marquez.

Last matchup: Dec. 31. Clovis held off the Tigers 70-67 in overtime to claim third place in the Southwest Dairy Farmers Classic.

What to watch for: This has “trap game” written all over it. The Wildcats have won two straight, most recently a 79-52 blowout over 4A power Artesia. Clovis has a rematch with Trinity Christian Feb. 3, but must first dispatch the Tigers, who are on a four-game losing streak. “They probably feel like their back’s against the wall a little bit, so they’ll be feeling like they’ve really got to win this game,” Clovis coach J.D. Isler said.

Isler said the Wildcats might try to focus on defense in the halfcourt, because the Tigers had little problem with the Clovis full-court pressure defense in their previous matchup.

Key number: Senior post Arthur Calbert has averaged 17.5 points per game in Clovis’ mini-streak. “To me, that’s a big factor,” Isler said. “He keeps the pressure off everybody else. I still feel if he gets to play more minutes against Highland and Trinity, those could be different games.”
