CLOVIS — Clovis Christian’s girls had things under control early, then saw it slip away before making the final run.
CCS outscored Dora 7-1 over the last four minutes Thursday night to edge the previously unbeaten Lady Coyotes 43-40 at the CCS gym.
In the boys game, Dora cruised to an 88-47 win over the Eagles.
Lady Eagles senior post Jennifer Schaap picked up her third foul midway through the second quarter, but played the rest of the way without a foul en route to a game-high 20 points.
Junior guard Jocelyn Swann had three 3-pointers and 10 points, including a free throw with eight seconds left. She then forced Dora’s Tori Varnell into a travel near midcourt with six seconds to go to seal the win.
“I think we played together,” Swann said. “Sometimes we get into too much of a hurry and shoot too quickly.
“We were excited when we won.”
CCS (4-2) never trailed in a first half which ended in a 17-17 tie, but fell behind 27-21 in the third quarter before rallying. Swann’s desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer gave CCS a 32-30 lead.
“There were lots of swings in the game,” Lady Eagles coach Max Kralicek said. “Our kids never quit, they just kept playing.
“Defensively, I thought we played well. Offensively, we still have to work on playing better together.”
Sisters Kendra and Kelli Merrick scored 12 points each for Dora (6-1), but the Lady Coyotes couldn’t overcome 22 turnovers.
“It’s probably the worst game we’ve played so far,” said Dora coach Caleb King, whose team doesn’t play again until the EPAC tournament in early January. “We just didn’t come ready to play today.
“We’ll just have to take this game and use it to help us get better.”

Senior guard Jeremy Butler and sophomore forward Lathan Lieb scored 32 points each for the Coyotes (7-3), who led 26-9 after the first quarter.
Senior guard Kyler Smith added 11.
The Coyotes had seven 3-pointers and went 15-for-15 from the free throw line, including 7-for-7 by Lieb and 6-for-6 by Butler.
“We executed really well on offense,” Dora coach Ty Thatcher said. “Jeremy Butler was solid. He had some great penetration and when they did play off him he knocked down some shots.”
Senior Ross Miller led the Eagles (1-6) with 14 points.
