TEXICO — Texico’s basketball teams advanced to the finals of the Citizens Bank Border Shootout Friday night with semifinal victories over rival Farwell.

Texico’s boys rode 23 points from junior Seth Bailey to a 60-41 victory. The Wolverines (2-1) face Bosque, a 60-38 winner over the Clovis junior varsity, in today’s 7:45 p.m. finale.

That game is a rematch of last year’s Class 2A round-of-16 state tournament game, won by the Wolverines 71-67 in overtime at Texico.

The Texico girls, meantime, face unbeaten Bovina (8-0) in the 6 p.m. championship contest. The Lady Wolverines (2-2) got past Farwell 41-37 while the Fillies turned back Springlake-Earth 32-28.

Texico’s boys opened an 18-10 lead at the quarter and were never headed. The Wolverines also got 12 points from senior Brett Anderson and 10 from junior Lucas Walthers, while the Steers (3-3) were paced by 12 points from sophomore Lincoln Devault.

Bosque outscored Clovis JV 15-5 in the second quarter to open an 11-point halftime cushion. The Bobcats were led by 13 points from 6-foot-9 senior Ryan Schaefer, while junior guard Alex Flores scored 12 for the Wildcats.

Texico’s girls opened an eight-point halftime lead and held off the Lady Blue (3-4) down the stretch. Freshman Jordyn Cooper topped the Lady Wolverines with 13 points, while juniors Laura Martinez and Tiffani Jones had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Farwell.

Bovina rode 14 points from junior Yoselin Rueda in its victory over Springlake-Earth. The Lady Wolverines got a game-high 15 points from 5-2 sophomore guard Jacy York.

Third-place games will send Farwell’s girls against Springlake-Earth at 3 p.m. and Farwell’s boys against Clovis JV at 4:45 p.m.

In boys consolation semifinals:

Bovina improved to 4-3 as senior guard Jesus Rocha scored 29 points in the Mustangs’ 63-52 victory over Springlake-Earth. Sophomore Alex Martinez scored nine of his 13 points in the final period as Bovina broke open a two-point game.

Meantime, Logan defeated Estancia 60-53 and will face Bovina for fifth place at 1:15 p.m. today. Estancia and Springlake-Earth play for seventh at 9:45 a.m.

In girls consolation semifinals:

The Clovis junior varsity got past Logan 55-50, getting 12 points from junior Kayla Ware. The Lady Wildcats play Mesilla Valley, a 38-33 winner over Estancia, for fifth at 11:30 a.m. today.

Logan (0-3) takes on Estancia (1-3) for seventh place at 8 a.m.
