GALLUP — The Clovis Lady Wildcats cruised in their opening game of the Gallup Tournament, using a 26-12 second quarter en route to a 73-47 rout of Window Rock, Ariz.
“We got after them pretty good,” Clovis coach Jeff Reed said. “We kept the pressure on them the whole game and caused a lot of turnovers. They tried to press us a lot, and we beat their press a lot.”
Forward Antiesha Brown pumped in 23 points for Clovis (2-0) while three other Lady Wildcats finished in double figures.
“She really stepped up,” Reed said of Brown. “In the first game (a 40-32 win Nov. 25 at Portales), she was in foul trouble. In this game, she was able to really get going.”
Clovis got 11 each from Brittany Johnson and Leah Willis and 10 from Jadee Isler.
Reed said he was pleased with the balance on offense and the defensive pressure for most of the night, but “the competition’s going to be a lot tougher tomorrow night.
Clovis faced Winslow, Ariz., who Reed said had an easy win over Los Lunas, in a 6 p.m. game that will be broadcast on KCLV.
