Cloudcroft at Texico
When: 7 p.m. today in a Class 2A quarterfinal playoff game.
Records: Cloudcroft 4-7, Texico 9-0.
Last meeting: 2004, Texico beat the Bears 36-7 in the Class 1A state finals at Cloudcroft.
Last week: Cloudcroft, seeded ninth in the 12-team field, ended a five-game losing streak with a 31-6 win over Laguna Acoma in a first-round matchup. The top-seeded Wolverines had a bye.
Keys to the game: Texico coach Mike Prokop said the Bears like to put the ball in the air and present pretty good overall team speed, led by senior RB T.R. Offield, junior WRs Quinn Winkles and Scott Szelazkiewicz and junior QB Ben Faust.
Of note: Texico has allowed just 39 points this season, with five shutouts. … Cloudcroft is averaging more than 28 points a game. The Bears have outscored opponents 147-12 in their four wins, but have been outscored in their losses 304-166.

Floyd at Melrose

Last meeting: 2008, the Buffaloes trounced Floyd 60-0 in a District 4 game at Melrose.
Last week: Floyd beat Magdalena 50-16 and Melrose shut out Springer 62-0 in quarterfinal games.
Of note: Melrose coach Dickie Roybal is Floyd coach Rafael Roybal’s nephew. “He’s always been my mentor,” Dickie Roybal said. “I know he’ll come up with a way to try to stop us.”

Muleshoe vs. Bushland
When: 7 p.m. (CST) today in a Class 2A Division I bi-district playoff game at Sundown.
Records: Muleshoe 10-0, Bushland 10-0.
Last meeting: 2007, the Mules beat Bushland 42-17 in a District 2-2A game. Districts were realigned this season.
Last week: Bushland shut out Amarillo Highland Park 44-0; Muleshoe cruised past Friona 41-7.
Keys to the game: Bushland has a number of weapons it can throw at opponents. Leaders for the Falcons are junior WR-DE Crockett Gilmore (6-5, 205), senior DE Andrew Hudson (6-5, 225), junior WR Michael Matthews and senior WR Rawley Gomez.
Of note: The Mules have outscored their opponents by an average of 52-13, including an overall margin of 243-14 in five district games. Bushland’s per-game margin for the season is 37-12. … Bushland is only in its fourth year as a school. … The winner between the Mules and Falcons faces either Littlefield or Kermit, also both 10-0, in the area round next week. Those teams play tonight at Monahans.
