The 2A Tucumcari Rattlers ended their playoff run with a 42-17 loss to the Capitan Tigers at Capitan.

The 10th-seeded Rattlers were trying to turn the corner and defeat the seventh-seeded Tigers and advance to next week’s semifinals against Dexter.

The Rattlers (3-8) capitalized on two early Tiger fumbles, and led 10-0 early, but couldn’t stop Capitan from then on. By the time Tucumcari put up its last points on a 39-yard touchdown reception by Angelo Montano, the Tigers had scored 42 unanswered.

Senior quarterback Caleb Wilcox tossed touchdowns to Jackie Eldridge (7 and 19 yards), Mike Mulrey (25), Colton Hufford (3) and Leo Villegas (9), and Christian Quiroz added a 7-yard scoring rush for the Tigers (6-5).

The Rattlers’ early points came off a 25-yard pass from Alex Hutchins to Jakus Martinez and a 16-yard field goal for Stephen Smith.
