Of note: Texico coach Mike Prokop said the Greyhounds run a spread offense, adding the Wolverines faced a spread attack last week, and will face another one next week against Capitan. All three games are on the road for Texico.
Keys to game: The Wolverines hope to control the ball and keep it away from Gruver.
Go figure: Texico, which has allowed only 18 points through four games, is averaging nearly 47 per outing.

Fort Sumner at Loving

Of note: While the young Falcons are going through a nightmarish season, Fort Sumner continues as the No. 1-ranked team in Class 1A.
Keys to the game: With an extremely young roster, Loving will have a tough time making the game competitive against the Foxes.
Go figure: 22 — points allowed by Fort Sumner through five games.

Dora at Melrose

Of note: Melrose is ranked No. 1 in the New Mexico High School Coaches Association 8-man poll.
Keys to the game: The Buffaloes hope to get through the game unscathed, with challenging games against Mountainair next week and in their District 3 schedule coming up after that.

Clovis Christian at Mountainair

Records: Clovis Christian 4-1, Mountainair 2-3.
Last week: Clovis Christian beat Dora 84-6; Mountainair lost to Gateway Christian 20-18.
Last meeting: Teams have never met.
Of note: Eagles coach Jason Swann said the father of Mountainair coach Robert Zamora died early last month and has had a disruptive effect on the Mustangs, the defending 8-man state champions. Despite their record, Mountainair is still ranked fifth. “It shows you how good they are,” Swann said.
Keys to the game: The Mustangs have a talented running back in sophomore Auron Silva, and Swann believes the contest may come down to which team better establishes its running game.
Quotable: “This is definitely, in my mind, as good a team as we’ve played. We’re really going to have to play a sound game.” — Swann.
Farwell at Clayton
When: 7 p.m. today
Records: Farwell 2-2, Clayton 4-1.
Last week: Farwell beat Amarillo Arbor Academy 40-20; Clayton beat Mescalero 60-8.
Of note: Clayton has given up 59 points this season — more than half coming in a 35-0 loss at Fort Sumner. … The teams were looking to fill an open date. Next year, the Yellowjackets are scheduled to return the trip to Farwell. … The Steers are not far from a perfect season, coach Mark Anglin said, noting that they got inside the Olton 15 twice in the first quarter without scoring in a season-opening 21-6 setback and penetrated the Bovina 15 eight times in a 22-20 loss on Sept. 13.
Keys to the game: It will be Farwell’s spread-formation passing attack against Clayton’s powerful, slot-I ground attack, Anglin said.
Quotable: “They look like a pretty good football team. Clayton reminds me of Springlake-Earth; they’re big and physical up front.” — Anglin.
