SANTA FE — The Clovis High volleyball team rolled into the semifinals of the Tournament of Champions Friday night, posting a 25-16, 25-16, 25-23 win over Santa Fe High.
The Lady Wildcats (6-2) meet Piedra Vista in a 10 a.m. matchup today.
Senior outside hitter Lainey Flatow collected 14 kills for Clovis. Setter-outside hitter Meagan Baglien had seven kills and 20 assists.
Clovis went 5-1 in games to take its pool. The Lady Cats swept Espanola Valley and Santa Fe Indian School and split games against Santa Fe Capital.
“The kids did a great job in pool play,” CHS coach Darrel Ray said.
Ray said defensive specialists Vanessa Gallegos, Nicole Anaya, Adrianna Aguilar and Felicia Aguilar played well all day.
“Vanessa probably played her best volleyball this season,” Ray said. “Her passing was so good, her serving was so good. What Vanessa does sometimes doesn’t get noticed.”
In the other semifinal today, also at 10 a.m., Pojoaque plays the winner of Friday’s Las Vegas Robertson-SFIS matchup. The third-place match is set for 4 p.m., with the finals to follow at 6 p.m.
