ALBUQUERQUE — The unbeaten Clovis Wildcats took control in the second half, turning a 28-28 halftime tie into a 77-61 win Tuesday night over Eldorado. Clovis, which returns to Albuquerque Saturday to play Valley, improved to 15-0 with the win. “We just felt like we didn’t defend very well the first half,” Clovis coach J.D. Isler said. “We made some adjustments at halftime. We hit some shots and were able to get the tempo up.” Junior Jaye Crockett led four Clovis players in double figures with 27 points. The Wildcats got 22 from Jaden Isler, 17 from Bryce Hill and 11 from Layne Strebeck. Only those four players scored for the Cats. Coach Isler indicated the team would need a more balanced effort in scoring, and would need to eliminate a few turnovers he said the team couldn’t make in a tight road game. “We need more than four guys scoring,” coach Isler said. “We feel we’ll have to come back and do some things Saturday, because Valley will be ready to play.” The Eagles (6-9) had two players in double figures — Craig Montford with 23 and Roman Montano with 16. The game was delayed for about 30 minutes in the second half due to an arm injury to guard Jordan Olinger. Isler said that took some momentum away, but the team recovered. “I’m pleased with the win,” Isler said, “(and) I’m pleased with the way we responded in the second half.”
