Clovis’ momentum carried through the weekend and through the 110-mile trip to Roswell. Jaye Crockett and Jaden Isler each scored 20 points, and the Wildcats bolted out to a 29-6 first quarter lead en route to a 78-38 pummeling of host Goddard Saturday night. Clovis (14-0) was coming off a 74-28 victory Friday over Moriarty, but showed no ill effects in sweeping the season series from the Rockets (8-6). “I kind of challenged our kids in the locker room to see if we could handle a blowout win, and come back and play sharp,” Isler said. “We really played sharp. It might have been as good a first half as I’ve seen all year.” Clovis defeated Goddard 96-65 earlier this season. “Jaden and Bryce (Hill, 14 points) hit some shots early,” Isler said. “Our bench really came in and played with a lot of energy.” Merik Olesinik scored 11 and Justin Cooper 10 for the Rockets. The competition will step up for Clovis this week, as the team makes a pair of Albuquerque trips. The Wildcats play Tuesday night at Eldorado and Saturday at Valley. Eldorado (6-8) is ranked 10th in Class 5A, and has been idle since a 61-55 win Tuesday over Albuquerque Academy. The Vikings have been in and out of the top 10 rankings. “We scheduled this before district for a purpose,” Isler said. “I think our kids will respond really well. When you have seven seniors, they have to get your team ready to play.”
