What: Clovis (12-0) vs. Moriarty (1-9), 7 p.m. Friday at Rock Staubus Gym, and vs. Goddard (7-6), 7 p.m. Saturday in Roswell.
Notes: The matchup is one of the unbeaten versus the beaten. Since edging Sandia 73-70 on Dec. 28 in the second round of its Milk Cow Classic tournament, Clovis has defeated its last four opponents by nearly 23 points a contest, none closer than 15. Moriarty, meanwhile, had dropped its last six coming into a Thursday home game against Estancia. ... Clovis coach J.D. Isler admits he hasn’t seen much of the Pintos, but knows they’re a team that wants to play at a slower tempo than Clovis. “It seems like that’s the type of team we've been seeing,” Isler said. ... Bryce Hill became Clovis’ career 3-point FG leader after drilling eight treys in Tuesday’s 74-44 win over Canyon at The Rock. Hill, who now has 37 3-pointers this season, raised his career total to 140 to eclipse 2007 grad Cody Thornsbury (135). … The Wildcats defeated Goddard 96-65 on Dec. 22, but the Rockets have a retooled roster since the semester break. They’ve won two of their last three since the game at Clovis, and face Lovington tonight. ... Three Wildcats are averaging double figures — senior guards Jaden Isler (22 points per game) and Hill (19.4 ppg, 38.1 percent from 3-point range), and junior post Jaye Crockett (16.7), who also leads Clovis in rebounding (8.6 per game).
Quotable: “I doubt that at the end, anybody’s going to say, ‘You didn’t play a tough schedule.’ We’ll play against anybody and everybody who wants to come play us.” — Isler, on the difficulty in scheduling a tough pre-district schedule.
