Milk Cow/Plateau Classic notes

• Except for people who live in Clovis, it’s unlikely anyone has more familiarity with those milling about the tournaments this weekend than St. Michael’s boys coach Ron Geyer.
Before he took the St. Mike’s job three years ago, Geyer was the head coach for the girls in Los Lunas.
Before he was at Los Lunas, Geyer had a stretch as the boys basketball coach at Alamogordo which included state championships in 1991, 1992 and 1997.
In the Plateau Wireless semis, Alamogordo’s girls lost to Cibola on Friday.
“And I saw a lot of the girls I actually had in basketball camp back when I was the boys coach in Alamogordo,” Geyer continued. “That’s how old I am."
• Lori Stephenson and Sharon Max, head coach and assistant respectively for the Cibola girls basketball team, had an interested member in the house as their Cougars won their Plateau Wireless Classic semifinal — Wayne Moore, former women’s coach at Eastern New Mexico University.
Stephenson played for Eastern and graduated in 1990, while Max was a Zia until she graduated in 2002.
“We have a lot of friends down here,” said Stephenson after her team’s victory over Alamogordo. “As a matter of fact, the offense that we run is the old Eastern New Mexico offense. I asked coach Moore to watch our offense to kind of give us a few more pointers on it.
“I’m going to go talk to him right now,” she added.
