SEMINOLE, Texas — The Clovis High girls swim team won for the third time in three outings this fall, capturing team honors in the Seminole Invite on Saturday.
The Lady Wildcats finished with 107 points in a 12-school tournament. Clovis’ boys were sixth with 45 points.
The girls’ only win came in the 400 freestyle relay, with Katelyn Jeffs, Portia Gibbons, Amber Espinoza and Jill Southard posting a time of 4:36.70. That foursome also placed second in the 200 medley relay.
“They swam well today,” CHS swimming coach Vincent Demaio said. “Jill Southard anchored the (two) relays; as a freshman, she’s doing a phenomenal job.”
Espinoza, Southard and Gibbons all posted individual second-place finishes, while Espinoza was third in the 100-meter butterfly and Southard took third in the 200 individual medley.
Miles Ware led the Clovis boys, winning the 200 individual medley (2:30.07) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.51). He also anchored the second-place 200 freestyle relay team which also included Landon Dalley, Brandon Williams and Nick Demaio.
Clovis travels to Albuquerque on Saturday for its final pre-Christmas outing in the Valley Invitational, scheduled for West Mesa High School.
