ALBUQUERQUE — The Elida Lady Tigers advanced to the Class 1A state volleyball semifinals Thursday night with a 25-20, 25-14, 27-25 win over Tatum at Del Norte High School.
Elida (18-6) will face District 3-1A rival and defending state champion Fort Sumner (17-7) in a noon semifinal today at the University of New Mexico’s Johnson Center. The other semifinal, at 10 a.m., pits Animas against Clovis Christian.
The championship match is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson Center.
The Lady Tigers rallied from a five-point deficit to win the first game, then erased a 23-18 deficit in the finale with nine of the final 11 points.
“We served well and that really helped us,” Lady Tigers coach Darrell Chenault said. “We’ve got to play better tomorrow, though, or we’ll get blown out.”
The Lady Tigers split a pair of matches with Fort Sumner in regular-season district play, then lost to the Vixens in the finals of the district tournament in Fort Sumner.
