Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don't care if I never get back. Let me root, root, root for the home team, If they don't win it's a shame. For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out, at the old ball game.
Yes ladies and gentlemen October is almost here, which means, playoffs. This year my beloved New York Yankees are not the wildcard team but will be the American League East champions.
Currently they are in the midst of a series with the Tampa Bay Rays, the team which is tied for the AL wildcard with the Boston Red Sox.
If you ask any Red Sox’s fan they’d say we are letting the Rays win putting the need to win on them to win against the Baltimore Orioles in order to force a one-game playoff to decide who is getting the final spot in the AL playoff picture.
While I’m not sure if this is what they are doing, I can’t help but grin and wink at those Red Sox fans and say, “No, we’d never throw a game to make it harder on the Red Sox.” All the while that fan is glaring at me shaking their head.
The playoffs are going to be good this year, the Texas Rangers are right back in to the thick of things. Those Detroit Tigers, (withholds the snide comments about the Tigers as the person editing this column is a fan of the Tigers. Perhaps the only fan this side of the Mason Dixon Line.) are at the top of the AL Central.
While we are looking at how things are shaping up in our league we are also watching what is happening in the National League.
Of course the Philadelphia Phillies are in the playoffs, surprise, surprise, but then again so are the Milwaukee Brewers, which is a surprise. The wild card team, well that is a battle between the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals.
The way it looks the playoffs are going to be electric and I can only imagine what the World Series will be like.
Of course I am pulling for the Yankees to be the team to represent the AL in the series. It’s not going to be easy. There are a lot of great teams we have to beat.
If it was possible I would love to see a Yankees vs Phillies World Series. Yeah I know most of you would bet on the Phillies on that one. Which would make beating them all that much sweeter.
So my fellow playoff fans, good luck and we’ll see you on the field.
(Editor's note: See you in The "D" Yankee fan!)
