Army soldier James L. Heasley of Tucumcari was part of the first section of an Army Quartermaster Mortuary Team in Libya. As part of the team, Heasley helped to search for the remains of four crewman of the Liberator bomber Lucky Lady, which crash landed in 1943. The wreckage and five bodies were found in 1959.
The Tucumcari Fire Department fought a fire at Hoskins Welding Shop. The fire damaged the building and much of the equipment before the fire was put out ... Lyman Dudley displayed an Indian bowl artifact which he found near Newkirk. Archaeologists dated the bowl and estimated it was made almost 4,000 years ago
Census director Richard Laing of Albuquerque reported that the population of Tucumcari was 8,063.
