Lydia Willis of Tucumcari was honored by the Eastern New Mexico Teachers Association. Willis retired after 48 years of teaching. She spent 43 of those years in Quay County.

 

 

Fitzner Oil Company and Johnny’s Shamrock Service Station offered a free colonial kerosene burner lamp with the purchase of ten gallons or more of quality Shamrock gasoline during a promotional April sale called Shamrock Days.

 

 

Safeway grocery store had town house dollar specials on groceries. Five cans of green beans were on sale for $1, eight cans of cream corn cost $1, a half gallon of Snow Star ice cream cost 49 cents, six-bottle cartons of coke cost 35 cents, 50 ounce packages of Ad detergent were on sale for 79 cents and sirloin steaks were 79 cents per pound.

 

 

The Tucumcari Fire Department fought a fire at the Mark Huff wrecking yard for 2 1/2 hours. The fire was caused by a spark from an acetylene welder. A garage building and several wrecked cars were burned. The damage was estimated at $6,500.
