Two fires destroyed two buildings in Tucumcari within 2 1/2 hours. The first Building claimed by the fire was Gamble's store. The auditorium was the last building to be claimed by the fire and as a result Trojan Junior High was closed. The State Fire Marshall’s office and Kenny Moore of the General Adjustment Bureau suspect arson in both fires.
Members of the Tucumcari Fair Board held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new fairground facility.
New Mexico State Police arrested a Texas man 11 miles east of San Jon for transporting 265 pounds of marijuana.
Grover Payne was appointed as the new assistant hospital administrator at the Dan Trigg Hospital. He worked with hospital administrator Don Alexander on the proposed hospital budget and other hospital functions.
Tucumcari Future Farmers of America SFO Chief Horace Arnold received a 30-year pin from FFA Assistant Division Chief Paul N. McMullen for 32 years of service at 16 different FFA Clubs around the United States.
