The Tucumcari Chamber of Commerce appointed Frances Olsen of Tucumcari as chamber director. The director's position was open with the resignation of Don Long, who had taken a position elsewhere in the county.

 

The final touches to the new Tucumcari Library were being done and the building was scheduled to be opened by the end of the month.

 

Gutters were installed by the Broce Construction Company on the new four-lane highway at the West Interstate 40 exchange. The exchange is expected to bring more tourists into Tucumcari, increasing business.

 

Tucumcari Mayor Kenneth Schilentz and Police Chief J. Bronson Moore presented Mrs. Nick Poulos, supreme president of the Does, with honors. Mayor Schilentz presented Poulos with the key to the city and Chief Moore appointed her as a special deputy for the city.

 

Sherrie Bourne, a sixth grader from the Buena Vista School, was the Quay County Spelling Bee winner. Fellow sixth grader Michael Garton of the Granger school took second place.
