Two Tucumcari High School students were chosen to participate in the annual New Mexico All-State Choir Feb. 2 and 3 in Albuquerque. They were Cindy and Suzy Martin. Cindy sang in the mixed choir while her sister, Suzy sang in the alto section of the choir.
The Tucumcari Chamber of Commerce directed their attorney, Robert M. Rowley to investigate all possible avenues in bringing legal action against the Mountain State Telephone Company. The legal action is sought by the chamber of commerce in regards to the telephone company's default in contract with Tucumcari’s franchise and joint pole usage agreement with the firm. The city would send a delegation later in the month to an SCC meeting in Santa Fe where Mountain State's district manager, M.L. Gilpin offered to buy 452 utility poles from the city. Mayor Kenneth Schlientz gathered figures and would contact the phone company in regards to the poles' worth.
