The 43rd Annual Agriculture and Home Economics Seminar, hosted by the Quay County Extension Service, will be held Jan. 27 at the Tucumcari Convention Center.  The convention center is located at 1500 W. Route 66.  The doors will open at 8 a.m. for registration, refreshments, and visiting.  Several sponsors will have booths set up to view during the day.
This year’s seminar will focus on the safety of our food supply and other health issues.  Programs will begin at 8:30 a.m. with an opening keynote speaker.  The format will be different this year with everyone being able to participate in all the workshops.  Our keynote speaker, Billy Dictson, will open the seminar with an overview of the issues around food security and how our food supply is protected. Nancy Flores will follow with information on the new Food Safety Bill and how that will affect the producers and consumers.  Del Jimenez will give us some tips for producing food safely.  Sonja Koukel will ease our minds with some information on the recent health scares.  During lunch, Billy Dictson will wrap us up with tips on what we can do to protect our food supply.
The seminar is free and a lunch will be provided by area businesses.  The seminar will end with a door prize drawing.  For more information or to help sponsor this seminar, call the Quay County Extension Office at 461-0562.  If you are a person with a disability and in need of auxiliary services in order to participate, please call Brenda at 461-0562 by Jan. 20.  The Quay County Extension Office is a field office of NMSU and is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and educator.
