The Tucumcari cross country team will host a run Saturday at Five Mile Park

Senior Matt Pacheco said he was looking forward to the Rattlers hosting a cross country event Saturday at Five Mile Park.

“It is going to be special,” said Pacheco. “We had the district meet here last year, but this is our first time to host an event during the season.”

The Rattlers opened their season with a sixth-place finish for the boys and girls at the Clovis invitational on Aug. 27.

“These teams are doing fantastic,” said head coach Gary Hittson. “They are going to continue to get better as the year progresses.”

Hittson said the Rattlers competed on Friday against 3A, 4A and 5A schools. He said the Rattlers were the only 2A team at the event.

“We just need to keep pushing ourselves and working hard,” said junior Michael Marroquin.
