Former Tucumcari city manager, John Sutherland, was selected over three other applicants to become the county manager of Luna County, according to a report by The Deming Headlight.

The selection will become finalized on Monday if contract negotiations are successful, the report said.

County Commission Chairman Javier Diaz said Sutherland's salary will be between $80,000 and $90,000, the Headlight reported.

Sutherland served as manager of the city of Tucumcari from May 2007 until January 2009, when his contract was not renewed in a 3-2 vote by the  Tucumcari City Commission.
