And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Isaiah 2:3
Dreams really do come true. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart”. The Lord certainly gave me the desire of my heart with my new book titled, “Let’s Go To The Mountain”. It was one thing to know it was coming, but to actually hold the finished book was a joy that is hard to express.
Writing a column for almost 16 years gave me the chance to share my heart with the readers along with spiritual truths the Lord showed me. When people began telling how they cut out columns that were special to them and sent them to friends and relatives I was overjoyed it was serving the purpose of writing it.
Several years ago I was approached with the idea of putting those columns together into book form. It was suggested I compile them into one for each day of the year, which is exactly what I did. I gave Mom one of the first copies and she told me that once she started reading she didn’t stop with just one day. Maybe mothers are a little prejudice but she told how she kept reading and found herself picking it up every chance she got. I give praise to God for this because it certainly wasn’t written without His help. My heart is so full of joy and reminds me of the words found in 1 Chronicles 16:34, “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever”.
During the process of writing and getting the book published I faced several obstacles. The finished book is larger than I envisioned and I wondered if people would buy it. Self-doubt crept in and I questioned why I even started the project.
Then I found this verse in Joshua 1:9: “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest”. This book is for God’s glory, not mine. Whether one copy or a million are sold if it helps just one person it is well worth it. During the process I pray my life reflects Colossians 1:10, “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God”.
I think God has a sense of humor that he showed when I was trying to take the perfect picture for the cover. I took several pictures of Tucumcari Mountain at different times of the day and from different locations. Mark even put me up in the bucket truck so I could take a picture from a different angle at sunset. While I was up there I took several different pictures. Later, a picture of trailers, steel, and other items caught my eye.
The picture showed me that sometimes we have to make our way through “stuff” (even if it is good stuff) to get to the mountain of the Lord. We get bogged down with the things of life and the things of God appear to be far away in the distance. Sometimes on that pathway to God I allow myself to get distracted with the things that are right in front of me.
Unlike Tucumcari Mountain, in the last days the Lord’s Mountain will outshine all the mountains of the earth. While Tucumcari Mountain has drawn travelers to it and provided communication, the Lord’s Mountain will accomplish so much more. It will be a magnet for people of all nations who want to learn the ways of the Lord and walk in His path.
There will come a day when people will bow down and worship the Lord and confess that Jesus is Lord. Philippians 2:9-11 says, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”.
That perfect world isn’t here yet as there is a lot of “stuff” in our way. We have to persevere until that day when we go up to the mountain of the Lord.
Stuff can get the way of God
