Mrs. Hurley was born on June 16, 1913, at the Killgore ranch about seven miles west of Tucumcari to Ben Smith Killgore and Daisy Florence Heinman. She graduated from Tucumcari High School and worked as a beautician for several years. She married Timothy T. Hurley in Tucumcari in 1936 and accompanied him along the Southern Pacific Railroad to live in Tucumcari, Carrizozo, and Lordsburg, New Mexico, Douglas, Ariz., and El Paso, Texas. Together they had three daughters: Barbara Jan, Madonna Katherine, and Patricia Ann. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989 and continued to live by herself until her death on Sept. 30, 2006, in her home in Pojoaque, N.M. She was an adept outdoorswoman, fine fisherwoman, excellent seamstress, and could make apple pies that were better than money, her family said. She is survived by a sister, Leila Wharton of San Antonio, Texas, and her three daughters; and eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Arrangements are by Berardinelli Family Funeral Service of Santa Fe.
