  • New CYFD tool good step for saving children

    Albuquerque Journal|Apr 11, 2018

The Children, Youth and Families Department has unveiled a tool that will save lives, literally. It’s called the Law Enforcement Portal, a database that officers can access from their computers or mobile devices. It lets law enforcement access CYFD records, including previous referrals and contacts with children and families, whether any of those referrals were substantiated, and the names and phone numbers of case workers. The goal is giving police officers quick access to background information that allows them to quickly focus their i...

  • Wellness Fair a 'success'

    Thomas Garcia, Staff writer|Apr 11, 2018

The first Quay County Wellness Fair in four years was a success, as residents took advantage of more than 20 health screenings and more than 60 information booths, said Brenda Bishop, Quay County Extension Agent. "There was a large variety of information from many organizations for residents to benefit from," Bishop said. Bishop admitted there was concern public participation would wane due to the four-year gap between fairs, but Saturday's turnout quickly alleviated those concerns. Bishop said...

  • Libertarians smartest of them all

    Steve Hansen, Columnist|Apr 11, 2018

I must congratulate the local editorial policy makers of Clovis Media Inc. — owners of this newspaper and the one in Clovis — who are officially and staunchly libertarian in their editorial views. It turns out that researchers have found that, by and large, libertarians are smarter than Republicans or Democrats. This is not to deny the Harvard credentials of Stephen Bannon (business) or Ted Cruz (law), or the Yale credentials of Bill Clinton or the Harvard Law credential of Barack Obama. On average, researchers have found that liberals are a l...

  • Do right while you're waiting

    Gordan Runyan, Religion columnist|Apr 11, 2018

One of the most debated topics within Christian theology is “Eschatology,” or the study of last things, the end-times. These discussions get heated, but we generally agree that we can hold different opinions without having to accuse each other of heresy. I can acknowledge your right to be wrong, and we can still be brothers in Christ’s kingdom. However, Jesus did warn about some dangerous errors with regard to his Second Coming. These are not so much errors regarding how we think unful...

  • Three days after the resurrection

    Leonard Lauriault, Religion columnist|Apr 11, 2018

As Jesus stated, he was in the grave for three days and three nights (Matthew 12:39-41; 16:21; 17:22-23; Luke 18:31-34; 24:1-7). Evil men had torn down his temple and he built it back in three days (John 2:18-22). It’s now been three days since Easter and I wondered what Jesus’ disciples were doing three days after his resurrection. When Jesus was arrested, his disciples deserted him and fled, although, at least two of them went to his first trial (Matthew 26:47-56; Mark 14:43-51; Luke 22:54; John 18:12-16; bookmark these passages, they’ll all...

Quay County Treasurer Patsy Gresham requested the commission look into an purchase of an Eagle web software addition during Monday’s regular meeting. Gresham said the $16,000 software would allow...
