The motion to not pursue the case was entered on April 10 by Fourth Judicial Deputy District Attorney R. Lance Miller before Harding County Magistrate Judge Karen Mitchell in Tucumcari. Quay County Magistrate Judge TJ O’Quinn and the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office requested and received a recusal from the case in February. Dominguez was arrested Feb...

  • After the resurrection - 2

    Leonard Lauriault, Religion columnist|Apr 18, 2018

For about 40 days after his resurrection, Jesus proved he was alive and taught his remaining eleven Apostles; then, he ascended back to heaven having previously promised to return (Acts 1:1-14; John 14:1-3). Recently (April 11, 2018, Quay County Sun), I wrote about the Apostles’ activities shortly after his resurrection, speculating that they’d hidden for over a week because they were in the same house in Jerusalem a week later (Luke 24:13-35; John 20:24-26). We also know that the women at the tomb were instructed to tell his disciples tha...

  • Democracy will die out without freedom of press

    St. Louis Post-Dispatch|Apr 18, 2018

P op culture has turned former President Richard Nixon’s “enemies list” into the butt of jokes 45 years after the famously ruthless and paranoid president created it, in part, to monitor journalists. A new Trump administration effort to compile a database of journalists and “media influencers” is not the least bit funny and represents a clear threat to First Amendment rights. Congress should intervene to stop the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to monitor 290,000 global news outlets. The department has advertised for a contractor...

  • Much to be learned about England

    Steve Hansen, Columnist|Apr 18, 2018

Jolly old England was mostly old to my wife and I on our second visit last week to the nation that spawned ours. It’s hard to be jolly when the temperature seldom rises above 50 under black-and-gray skies that regularly deposit rain on the ancient land. But then, this is April and even London in southern England is about even with Calgary, Alberta, Canada in latitude. T.S. Eliot’s “The Wasteland” starts with “April is the cruelest month/breeding lilacs out of the dead land.” What Eliot meant was that in April it is spring, and plants star...
