I-40 accident claims two lives
Comments 0Two people were killed and one person was injured Sunday in a single-vehicle accident 10 miles east of Tucumcari on Interstate 40, said New Mexico State Police Lt. Cleo Baker.
Elmer Capps, 78, of Fresno, Calif., was driving westbound on I-40 when his 2002 Crown Victoria drifted off the right shoulder, Baker said.
Capps overcorrected and the vehicle went across both lanes of traffic, drifting off the left shoulder, and rolled over in the median, Baker said.
Capps died at the scene of the accident.
Passenger Elma Capps, 78, of Fresno, was transported to a hospital in Amarillo, where she died from injuries suffered in the wreck, Baker said.
The other passenger, Ronny Duncan, 51, of Escondido, Calif., was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital, Baker said.
The driver and the passengers were all wearing their seat belts, Baker said.
