03-22-2008: Police Blotter

The following is a sample of calls received during the last few days by the central dispatch office for Quay County, based at the Tucumcari Police Department. According to reports:

Wednesday

• At 9:02 a.m., a male reported that fuel had been stolen. The officer advised that the caller said fuel had been stolen from a tank at a truck plaza in San Jon. The San Jon police officer was advised of the incident.

• At 9:36 a.m., a female reported a fight between two male subjects at a motel on West Tucumcari Boulevard. The female said one subject was in the laundry room and the other one said he was going to get a knife and kill him. The officer contacted the parties and neither party wanted to press charges.

• At 1:37 p.m., an officer received a anonymous tip that there was a firearm in an alleyway on Hancock Street between Sixth and Seventh streets. The gun was covered by a rag and recovered by the officer.

• At 2:21 p.m., a fire alarm was reported at the elementary school. City fire units responded and reported that it was a malfunctioning alarm.

• At 3:10 p.m., several callers reported an accident at First Street and Tucumcari Boulevard. The officers advised it was a one-vehicle accident. The accident occurred because an unknown vehicle had cut off the driver and the driver lost control.

• At 4:26 p.m., a female called to report embezzlement at a retail store on Tucumcari Boulevard. The officer advised that a former employee had taken $230 and the company's loss prevention department is investigating.

• At 5:05 p.m., a female reported a gas skip at a convenience store on South First Street. The female then called back to report that another employee had taken payment for the gas and had forgotten.

• At 9:07 p.m., an officer provided assistance to a motorist at Exit 332 and Interstate 40. The officer reported that the motorist could drive the vehicle in reverse.

Thursday

• At 12:29 p.m., a male called to ask for a walk-through of a lounge on West Tucumcari Boulevard. The officer advised that one subject was given a ride home.

• At 6:05 a.m., an alarm was reported at a high school. The officer advised that the janitor had accidentally set off the alarm.

• At 7:56 a.m., several callers reported three grass fires on Interstate 40 at Bard. The Bard Fire Department extinguished the fires.

• At 8:51 a.m., a caller reported that there had been vandalism at business office on East Tucumcari Boulevard. The officer reported that a front window had been broken and that it was possibly from a sling shot.

• At 12:19 p.m., a female called to report that a family was in a county office applying for a marriage license and got into a dispute. The officer reported that he contacted the family and that everything was OK.
