Ticket feature: Roping association expanding to New Mexico

Amarillo-based Original Team Roping Association is starting off the year by expanding to New Mexico.

The group will be holding a team roping event Saturday and Feb. 13 at the Curry County Special Events Center.

Whitney McCright, business manager for the association, said the association organizes team-roping events in Texas and Oklahoma.

The group hosted an event in Clovis last August but this will be the first year the group has held qualifying events in New Mexico.

McCright said the association plans to host five events between January and May. Each event is a qualifying event for the Original Team Roping Finals July 2 in Abilene.

McCright said there are plenty of ropers in the eastern New Mexico area to participate. She also hopes Amarillo ropers participate in the Clovis events.

The event is free to spectators. Ropers must be a member of the association to participate in the event.
