Friends of Ute Lake plan outdoor holiday concert

Two enterinment headliners will be the guest performers at the first annual “Stars on tthe Water 08,” concert on May 24.


The event is a fundraiser sponsored by the Friends of Ute Lake State Park, said one of the organizers, Kathy Leal of Logan.


Country artist Stephen Cochran is the featured peformer.  A former Marine, who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, he draws on his life experience and writes many of  his own songs.


Cochran will give a 90-minute concert followed by the featured band, Confederate Railroad, which will also perform for 90 minutes, Leal said.
The CRR has sold more than 5 million albums and began their climb after being named the Academy of Country Music's Best New Group in 1993 and nominated for a Grammy, according to their Web site.


Proceeds from the event will be used to build a fish-cleaning station and to upgrade and to create a sandy beach on a section of the shoreline, Leal said.

A recent project by  the Friends of Ute  Lake is a fish weigh-in station at the park.

What to expect:

• Performers: Stephen Cochran and Confederate Railroad
• When: May 24
• Where: Ute Lake Park
• Time: Gates by the baseball field open at 4 p.m. Performances begin at 6 p.m.
•  Tickets: $25 each for adults. $10 for children ages 6-12 if accompanied by an adult. Children 5 and under are admitted free with an adult.  Tickets may be purchased in advance from Ruf-Nec Tackle, the Annex, Richmond’s Secret Garden in Logan and at the gate on May 24.
• What to bring: Your own Chair and blanket. No glass containers are allowed in the park.
