Business digest: Furniture store expanding

Portales’ Ashley Furniture owners have expanded to Clovis with a new sales location at 4005 N. Prince.

Manager Bobby Hamilton said the furniture store, which opened Friday, serves as a branch of the Portales business owned by Max and June Merrick and carries many products from the Ashley Furniture line.

The Clovis store — called furnish 123 — opened Friday and is located across from Wal-Mart.

Hollywood Video on North Prince Street closed its doors for good on Friday.

The store, located in a shopping plaza near Dollar Tree and Radio Shack, was a movie rental and sales center.

The building previously occupied by Wendy’s Restaurant is for sale in Clovis.

Realtor Jerry Cass said the asking price is $800,000 for the location at the corner of Manana and Prince streets adjacent to North Plains Mall.

Wendy’s closed its doors in mid-June.

Cass said owner Wade Davenport and Diamond D Restaurants of Lubbock will not reopen Wendy’s while the property is on the market.

Suddenlink Communications Broadband Technician Gary Langford retired June 25 after 39 years of service in the local cable industry.

Langford, who oversaw plant operations and new construction projects, was the longest-tenured Suddenlink employee in Clovis, according to a Suddenlink news release.
