Tucumcari Middle School honors veterans
Comments 0Today across the country and in Quay County the men and women of the military are being honored for their hard work, sacrifice and service to their nation on Veterans Day.
We sat down with a few Tucumcari Middle School students and asked them why is Veterans Day so important and how they would like to thank the men and women who have served and are serving in the military today.
Brandy Olivas, 14,

Do you know what Veterans Day is about?
Veterans Day is about honoring our military troops and heroes that fought for our country.
Why is it important to celebrate Veterans Day?
It's important to celebrate those who fought for us. They deserve our appreciation and thanks for all that they have done.
Do you have any veterans in your family?
No I do not have any veterans in my family. But we still think it is important to remember those who have served.
What would you like to say to the men and women who have and are serving their nation?
I would like to say thank you for everything. You men and women are greatly appreciated for all you have done and gone through to make our country a better place.

Do you know what Veterans Day is about?
It is a day dedicated to honoring our veterans and their service to our country. They risked their lives to protect us and this country and for that they deserve our thanks.
Why is it important to celebrate Veterans Day?
It is important to celebrate because the men and women that protected our country did so of their own free will. They were at risk everyday and knew that it could take them away from their family.
Do you have any veterans in your family?
My grandpa, and my three uncles.
What would you like to say to the men and women who have and are serving their nation?
If I had a chance I would tell them how thankful I am for their service, I appreciate them for all that they have done. For those serving today I would tell them to stay strong, I know it must be hard for them being apart from their families for so long doing what they do.

It is important to celebrate Veterans Day because if there were no veterans our country would be in so much trouble.
Do you have any veterans in your family?
I do not have any close veterans in my family but along my family tree we do.
What would you like to say to the men and women who have and are serving their nation?
I would not be able to put it into words. My heart rejoices for those who have fought for our country and still are. Without them our country would not be the same. They are very brave men and women.

It lets us honor our military heroes and understand the importance of what they did for us in their day-to-day lives.
Do you have any veterans in your family?
My father is a retired Navy man who now works as a civilian driver overseas. My grandfather is retired Air Force. He was a pilot in World War II.
What would you like to say to the men and woman who have and are serving their nation?
I am grateful for having you do what you do, and I wish them luck. I hope they have a safe return home.
