 e-Paper FAQ

E-Paper Head

Q: What's the difference between the E-Paper and qcsunonline.com?

A: The E-Paper contains all the news, photos, ads, and box scores in the printed newspaper. It's a clickable replica of our newspaper. It is a subscriber-based service. qcsunonline.com contains the day's top stories, breaking news updated throughout the day, Web exclusives, real-time weather and forecasts, discussion boards, the daily death notices and much more. There is no fee.

Q: What is the cost of the E-Paper subscription?

A: The E-Paper is free to everybody until Nov. 16th so readers can take a test drive and experience the E-Paper for themselves. After the free trial offer is over, the E-Paper will still be free to subscribers of the print edition if they decide they want to activate it. People will also have the option of only subscribing to the E-Paper and not the printed newspaper.

Q: When I log in to the E-Paper, I get a screen that is asking whether I have a dialup connection or broadband connection. What is this?

A: Dialup connection through a modem is a much slower connection speed and is not optimal for viewing the E-Paper. This screen tells us that you need a version optimized for that slower connection.

Q: When I call up a story in the E-Paper, what are my viewing options?

A: Click on View in the story window. "Newspaper View" displays the story just as it appears in the newspaper, with columns and photos in place. "Quick View" is a text view of the story and photos. You can email or print the story in either mode. Just use the icons at the top of the story for print or email.

Q: The text is too small to read. How can I enlarge it?

A: You can expand the type size in Quick View if you are having trouble reading the story. There is a range of sizes for your viewing needs. You can enlarge the page itself by clicking on the icons in the upper right, but stories are meant to be clicked on.

Q: When I've clicked on a story, how can I make the story window larger?

A: Just drag the triangle in the bottom righthand corner of the story window. You control how much larger to make the window.

Q: Are the Sunday advertising inserts available online?

A: No advertising inserts are available at this time.

Q: What is "My Collection"?

A: My Collection, an icon in the story window, allows you to save the story to a clipboard for later reading. The story will stay in your Collection until you remove it. You may want to clip event schedules, advertisements, coupons, or other newspaper items to use later. Please note: My Collection uses cookies, which do not travel from computer to computer. Further, if you clear your cookies, you will lose your collected stories.

Q: Where are back issues?

A: You can get to back issues by moving your mouse over the date at the top of the daily edition for the last week of newspapers. Archives further back than the last week are not yet available.

Q: What if I am only interested in articles about, say, Cannon Air Force Base?

A: The E-Paper makes it easier than ever to find specific coverage. Just click on Features, use Search, and type in keywords such as Cannon or Base, and links to any coverage will appear -- no matter what section they are in. You can search just that day or the entire past week.

Q: Sometimes features such as the Crossword, Jumble, Comics or Television Tonight listings appear as text. How can I view these correctly?

A: Just open the item and click on View, then select Newspaper View.

Q: Can I print out articles, photos, and features such as crosswords and comics?

A: Yes. Simply click on the element you want to print, and click the icon of the printer in the top toolbar.

Q: Can I email the crossword or comics to another user?

A: Yes you can. Just click on the feature you want and select the email icon.

Q: I'm on AOL. Why am I having difficulties viewing the E-Paper?

A: Due to a browser limitation, AOL users must initialize the browser window first before starting to navigate the clickable edition. To initialize the browser window, simply resize the browser window once. NOTE: Some versions of the AOL browser will not display the E-Paper. If you are able to log in but pages won't load, please try this corrective action: Dial in to the Internet as usual using your AOL connection. Then close the AOL browser and open your default Internet Explorer browser (or Netscape, if you prefer it). Go to The E-Paper login page and sign in as usual. The pages should load correctly.

Q: You are collecting personal information when I sign up. Is this being offered to any third parties?

A: No. This information is for internal use only. Those who sign up will receive emails from the Quay County Sun on occasion, but your personal data is not being sold or otherwise shared with outside parties.

Q: Can I download the entire paper as a PDF?

A: PDF, or high-resolution image, is primarily for users who want to download the entire paper for offline viewing later. Most users would find a high-resolution view to be too taxing on your computer for regular use. The news pages and individual articles and ads are already optimized for Web viewing. But if you want to download a PDF of the paper, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. To download Acrobat Reader, Click Here.

Q: Does the download take a long time?

A: On broadband connection, the download for an entire edition typically takes about 10 minutes. On a dialup connection it could be as long as 45 minutes.

Q: I can't see the whole page on my screen. What do I do?

A: If you cannot view the entire width of the page, find a scroll bar along the bottom edge of your Web page. You can scroll right or left to view more of the page. You also will be navigate up and down using the scroll bar on the right edge.
