Next stop nationals for taekwondo athletes

Twenty-five martial arts athletes, from adults to childen, qualified for and were invited to the 2008 National AAU Youth and Adult Taekwondo Championships to be held June 30-July 5 in Madison, Wisc.

 The athletes from Tucumcari, Clovis and Muleshoe competed April 26 at the 2008 West Texas Qualification Tournament in Lubbock, Texas. 
The team was lead by masters Mark Anthony Baca, David Hardy and J.C, Cordova.

In the sparring competitions, the team captured:
l 16 first place medals
l  six second place medals
l  three third place medals. 

In the forms competitions, they captured:
l  nine first place medals
l  six second place medals
l six third place medals. 

The team also received a $100 school award for having the largest number of students competing at the tournament.
