06-23-09: Fishing Report

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

This June 23 fishing report has been generated from the best information available from officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, however, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.

Conchas Lake
It was another good week for catching small bass. Anglers did well using top water lures, tubes, senkos, brush hogs, smallie beavers, lizards and crank baits. Fishing was good using worms and flies for bluegill. Fishing was fair using minnows, spoons, bottom bouncer spinner/night crawler rigs and grubs at 12-to-22 feet for walleye. Fishing for white bass was fair using crank baits, grubs, minnows and spinners. Fishing for catfish was slow-to-fair using cut bait, liver, night crawlers and shrimp. We had no reports on other species.

Ute Lake
Fishing was good using top water lures, crank baits and grubs for white bass. Fishing was fair using minnows, spoons, jigs and bottom bouncer/night crawler rigs for walleye. Fishing was fair-to-good using worms for bluegill. Fishing for smallmouth bass was good using grubs, senkos, smallie beavers, worms, jerk baits and crank baits. Fishing was slow-to-fair using minnows and liver at night for catfish. Fishing for largemouth bass and crappie was slow.

There were no reported catches of the week at Conchas or Ute lakes.

If you have a catch of the week or want to share your latest New Mexico fishing experience, send it to: fishforfun2@hotmail.com. For catches of the week include name, date, location, type of fish, length and bait used.

This report was compiled by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish.
