Serving the High Plains

Letter to the editor - Dec. 7

Rube Render’s Nov. 23 column was primarily focused on poking fun at education, a subject as ubiquitous as tax cuts by Republicans.

He wrote, “Universities have established nonviolent spaces and crying rooms with coloring books and Play-Doh to assist students in coping with the panic attacks caused by the catastrophic election.”

That comes from the old joke — the Republican library burned and destroyed both books, one that had not been colored in.

There are a lot of intelligent people who are worried about what Trump will do.

Chief strategist Steve Bannon is associated with the alt-right skinheads, white power, etc.

Jeff Sessions for attorney general? He fought school integration in Alabama and failed other appointments due to his racist views. As AG, he can change how civil rights laws are enforced, or more accurately not enforced.

Tom Price, health and human services secretary? He is opposed to the Affordable Care Act, as are most Republicans even though it covers about 20 million Americans who have never had insurance. Trump has vowed to eliminate the ACA even though facts show it has helped millions and could easily be corrected technically, but not politically.

If all this does not worry you, turn off Fox News and check your pulse.

Also, scientists have repeatedly told us that our time to address pollution is rapidly growing shorter. There is no debate among environmental scientists. Trump and a lot of fossil fuel devotees are violently opposed for one reason — $$$$.

Not addressing global warming as Trump and others want will be catastrophic.

A person who refuses to believe in scientific facts does not belong in any position of responsibility.

Laws of gravity? Nah. Jump.
