Rattler teams post victories at Penasco

Girls to play at East Mountain; boys to play in tournament at Texico.

The Tucumcari Rattlers and Lady Rattlers added victories to their records Friday in games on the road against the Penasco Panthers and Lady Panthers.

The Lady Rattlers kept up their winning streak with a 63-56 over the Lady Panthers. That makes 11 wins without a loss this season. The Lady Rattlers lead District 5 and are ranked second in the state behind only Eunice in Class 3A girls’ basketball standings.

The Rattler boys won decisively, 78-43, leaving their record at 5-3 the Panthers at 2-8.

The Rattlers outscored the Panthers in all four quarters of the game, scoring the widest margin of 24 points against seven for Penasco in the second quarter.

The Lady Rattlers next defend their loss-free record at East Mountain on Jan. 2.

The Rattler boys’ next action is against the Newcomb Skyhawks Thursday during the Citizens Bank Tournament in Texico.

The Logan Longhorns and Lady Longhorns face off against the Springer Red Devils on Saturday in Springer.

The San Jon Coyotes and Lady Coyotes play again in Des Moines against the Demons on Saturday.

The Fort Sumner/House girls take on an unnamed opponent on Wednesday, Jan. 3, in the Eastern Plains Athletic Conference tournament in Texico.

The Fort Sumner House boys play next on Jan. 9 against the Texico Wolverines at Texico.
