A local communications provider is one of three statewide that received federal money to upgrade mobile service in rural areas of New Mexico that lack 3G or 4G wireless service. According to a release from Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., Plateau Telecommunications Inc. received $9.6 million to upgrade service across seven counties in the central and southeastern areas of the state. Eastern New Mexico University's president said Tuesday he expects the college's eligibility issues to be cleared up by mid-November. He also expects some form of punishment from the NCAA because athletes were missing paperwork required to be kept by the college's compliance office. CLOVIS — A biodiesel producer at the Clovis Industrial Park is setting up to sell its product locally. Renewable Energy Group is prepping a wholesale terminal at the plant, with product available for delivery in July. CLOVIS — Criminal charges against a Clovis police officer involved in a fatal vehicle accident in 2010 were dropped Friday. Attorney Dan Lindsey said Judge Teddy Hartley dropped charges after ruling interference in grand jury deliberations. Officer Stephen Gallegos, no longer with the Clovis Police Department, was indicted in January 2011 on charges of vehicular homicide and causing great bodily injury. PORTALES — A Tucumcari city commissioner requested help Tuesday from the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority. State Senator Clint Harden, R-Clovis, has announced he will not seek a fourth term and plans to retire following 10 years in the state Legislature. "It's something I've been thinking about during the interim, basically since last session," said Harden, who was appointed to the position in 2002 by then-Gov. Gary Johnson.
