    The Mesalands Community College Rodeo Women's Team brought home another championship title and three individual titles in weekend competition at Navajo Tech. The Women's Team earned 600 points and is now fifth in the nation. The Men's Team finished in third place with 465 points and won two individual titles. "The Women's Team had a great weekend.     The New Mexico State Police will team up Friday, with law enforcement agencies in seven other states in the "Get Your 'Clicks' on Route 66" seat belt crackdown. The quarterly mobilization began in August 2010 with a handful of law enforcement agencies in central Oklahoma, but now has expanded to include highway patrol troopers, state police officers and other agencies in eight states along the famed "Mother Road."     The New Mexico Powder Horn Cowbelles recently visited Mesalands Community College for a tour of the foundry and the farrier barn. The New Mexico Powderhorn Cowbelles is an organization of ranch women from across the state who are dedicated to the preservation of the land and educating others about their love and understanding of the land.     Mesalands Community College's women were named reserve champions and the men's team won four championship titles during their fifth annual rodeo. Mesalands held their annual Grand Canyon Region rodeo last weekend at the Quay County Rodeo Arena.     The Mesalands Community College's Rodeo Team had their second rodeo competition for the season at Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz., last weekend. The Women's Team clinched the Team Championship Title for the second time this year and earned 360.0 points. The Men's Team was named Men's Reserve Champions last weekend earning 405.0 points.     The North American Wind Research and Training Center at Mesalands Community College will be offering a new course, Introduction to Solar Energy, this semester. The course will allow the college, internationally known for its wind energy technology program, to expand into other renewable energy fields.     Bailey Bates, 19, a member of the Mesalands Community College rodeo team, was recently crowned the 2012 International Indian World Champion Breakaway Roper at the 8th Annual International Indian Finals Rodeo (IIFR). The rodeo was part of the New Mexico State Fair and was held Sept. 14-16, in the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque. Bates is starting her second year on the Mesalands Rodeo Team and is majoring in liberal arts.     The North American Wind Research and Training Center of Mesalands Community College will feature a one-semester occupational certificate in basic wind energy technology. A total of 28 students have received the certificate from Mesalands, including Orlando Encinias of Albuquerque.     Jim Curry, 67, a Fine Arts Student at Mesalands Community College, recently completed a bronze war sculpture honoring the soldiers from Union County that died in World War I, World War II, Korea, and in Vietnam. Curry designed and casted four field crosses that took two years to complete. A field cross is made up of a soldier's boots, his rifle, and a helmet signifying a fallen soldier.
