  • State judge dismisses one of three lawsuits against Ute pipeline project

    A state judge on Monday granted a motion to dismiss litigation the Village of Logan filed in an attempt to halt construction on the Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System, also known as the Ute Water Project. The litigation, heard by Judge Sarah Singleton of the First Judicial Court in Santa Fe, is one of three that have been filed this year against the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority, a body comprised of municipalities in Curry and Roosevelt counties.     American Legion Auxillary American Legion Auxiliary Juniors Unit 77 of Logan gave their time and love to make 106 quilt tops and spinal cork blankets for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque. Fabric, thread, sewing machines, etc. were all donated to assist them for this project, as well as prayer blankets. Carlie Perry, Ashley Turpin, Katie Bates and four others all helped.     Speculation runs from any day now to sometime after the first of the year on the timing of a state appeals court ruling that could open the door for a racino in Quay County.     A Colorado judge has ruled in favor of minority shareholders, stripping Barry Freedman of controlling power of the Ute Lake Ranch Inc. and DVR LLC and appointing a receiver. On Nov. 29, Arapahoe County District Court Judge J. Mark Hannen made a ruling stripping Freedman of controlling power of the subdivision and DVR LLC located at Ute Lake Reservoir near Logan.     Kathleen Box was re-elected to the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union board of directors. Delegates to the 2012 RMFU convention re-elected board member Kathleen Box to serve another term on the board. Box will continue to represent New Mexico on the board. She and her husband Phillip reside in Tucumcari and are a third generation farm family. They have been involved in RMFU for 28 years.   • Officials approve roofing contract for courthouse

    On Monday county commissioners met in special session and approved a roofing contract for the court house. County Manager Richard Primrose said the commission approved the contract of $203,300 to WWRC Inc. of Clovis. He said the company has 10 days to start on the roof after being notified of the approval. Primrose estimate it would take 90 days to finish the project.
