  • Thomas: Country could stand to learn more about New Mexico

    May 7, 2013

I've long known that most if not all of the U.S. outside the Four Corners and Texas Panhandle regions have little to no idea about what's really out here in New Mexico. In the past I have been asked if there are still Native American tribes along the rivers and if we still ride stagecoaches. For instance, I started to school at Central and usually walked east on High to Adams. On the morning walk, most of the women were busy with their indoor chores, but during the spring and fall, I would stop...

    May 7, 2013

"How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?..." James 4:14 NLT May is a milestone month for many people, however every month could fall in that category. This month, I watch young ladies graduate whom I watched grow. I tried to tell them to enjoy this time in their lives because a person is young for such a short time. I am looking forward to Mother's Day next Sunday, but in many ways it is like every other day. Many years ago I decided to show my mother how special she was and to show how every day is a special day because God gave...

  • Treasures in heaven only thing worth piling up

    Curtis K Shelburne Religion columnist|May 7, 2013

A few weeks after my father passed away in January 2000, my siblings and I re-gathered to go through his stuff. And I resolved to keep less stuff. Dad left us, and many more people as well, a legacy worth more than gold. He also left a prodigious amount of paper. Some of it was correspondence of real historical value for anyone interested in the history of "our" little group of churches.
