It's been 35 years since the Portales High School class of 1977 graduated but after a quick reunion in Ruidoso this past weekend it's clear the personalities are the same. I never would have guessed my class would have held four reunions by our 35th year but we wound up having a 10th, 20th, 30th and now 35th. The 51st annual state 4-H rodeo and horse show was a success despite a lower number of contestants compared to past years, said Brenda Bishop, Quay County extension agent. Bishop said here were 37 contestants enrolled in the horse show and 40 in the rodeo contest at Quay County Fairgrounds. She said rodeo helps to generate money to help cover the expenses of events the members of the Quay County 4-H attend. AMARILLO, Texas – Xcel Energy is asking electricity customers in its Texas and New Mexico service territory to conserve energy because of expected high electricity demand and an unplanned generation outage. Extremely high electricity demand across a wide region has tightened power supplies, and a major Xcel Energy generating unit is down for unplanned repairs until later this evening. An Xcel Energy spokesman says the utility company is confident it will be able to meet power demands today one day after asking customers to conserve energy. The city of Tucumcari hired an Albuquerque-based engineering firm to conduct a preliminary engineering report for future industrial growth. A solid waste facility grant from the New Mexico Environmental Department Solid Waste Bureau will help the city close and cap the old landfill. "We are extremely lucky to have received the $133,268 from the solid waste bureau," City Manager Doug Powers said. Nancy Taylor Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico Executive Director Nancy Taylor has been hospitalized in critical condition, food bank board President Allan Isbell said on Tuesday.
