Gomez said another reason they are holding only one practice a day from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. is the Coyotes are incorporated with the Grady-House athletic program and their students can't make it to practice until 4 p.m. "The old days, when teams would work out for two...

    Lynn Moncus QCS columnist|Aug 7, 2012

Thanks to the Rattler Alumni Board of Directors and the many people who helped them, we had one more great Rattler Reunion! Seeing so many classmates, friends, and former students was a major thrill for this aging Rattler Alumna and former teacher. Our great class of 1952 celebrated our 60th anniversary of graduation as 14 of us gathered to reminisce about our wonderful years in the Tucumcari Public Schools. As we talked, we had a bit of a problem counting to 60 and realizing we had been out of school for that many years. The love and warmth am...

  • My past now belongs in museum

    Karl Terry QCS columnist|Aug 7, 2012

We all want some of the things we touched in life to live on for posterity but it's a shock to walk into a history museum and find an item you had personal experience operating. Such was the case recently when I made a stop at the Roosevelt County Museum on the campus of Eastern New Mexico University. Operating the visitor center at the Roosevelt County Chamber, my staff and I frequently have the opportunity to direct a visitor or newcomer to one of our museums in the area. I've been inside each of them myself but my staff of college students...

    Albuquerque Journal|Aug 7, 2012

A potential financial quagmire at the New Mexico Finance Authority, brought to light by a fraudulent 2011 audit report, has spurred concern about oversight of quasi-governmental agencies. It has postponed a $40 million bond sale. Two national credit rating agencies have placed the NMFA's bond ratings on a watch list for possible downgrading due to concerns over lax...

  • Lauriault:Christians should help guide others to right path

    Leonard Lauriault QCS columnist|Aug 7, 2012

One dark night recently, while traveling north on U.S. 285 where it's divided between Roswell and Vaughn, we noticed another traveler also headed north, but in the southbound lanes. Although that was dangerous, it's understandable how, on an unlighted highway at night, someone unfamiliar with the road could make a left-hand turn into the right-hand lane, which would be his driving lane, if it was a two-lane road. It's coincidental that we were the only car traveling north on that stretch of road, but we were meeting lots of vehicles headed...
