After a four year-absence a carnival midway will return for the 2012 Quay County Fair, according to fair officials. "We moved our fair up to accommodate the school system and that created a conflict of scheduling with the Sun Valley rides, midway company," said Brenda Bishop, fair board secretary. Bishop said the schedule change placed the county fair at the same time as a larger fair that the company was already working. A lack of effectiveness and health concerns have area coaches changing their strategies when it comes to two-a-day football practices. More than 100 attended the official opening of the completed $22 million Tucumcari High School building. Three local youths will compete in a country music singing competition Saturday in Tucumcari. The KTNM radio station will hold the Texaco Country Showdown at 8 p.m. at the Pow Wow Lizard Lounge, said Charlie Morrison, general manager, KTNM KQAY radio stations in Tucumcari. More than 100 animals will receive services at the 2012 Dog and Cat Health Fair at the Tucumcari Convention Center this weekend. A potential financial quagmire at the New Mexico Finance Authority, brought to light by a fraudulent 2011 audit report, has spurred concern about oversight of quasi-governmental agencies. One dark night recently, while traveling north on U.S. 285 where it's divided between Roswell and Vaughn, we noticed another traveler also headed north, but in the southbound lanes. Although that was dangerous, it's understandable how, on an unlighted highway at night, someone unfamiliar with the road could make a left-hand turn into the right-hand lane, which would be his driving lane, if it was a two-lane road.
